Sumitomo Chemical Asia (SCA) is the regional headquarters at the centre of Asia for the Sumitomo Chemical group, working closely with our network companies in the region which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Australia and India. Recognized as a market with high potential, Sumitomo Chemical continues to expand its presence within the region which plays a major role in the Sumitomo Chemical Group’s global strategy. SCA is a sales, marketing and distribution-coordination centre for Petrochemical products produced by the Rabigh Refining & Petrochemicals company (Saudi Arabia). SCA is also a major producer of Methyl Methacrylate and one of the leading company of Health & Crop Science products and Energy & Functional materials. Our state-of-the-art Methyl Methacrylate Monomer (MMA) and Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) plants are strategically located in Singapore’s Jurong Island with ready access to an efficient port. As Asia’s largest integrated producer of Methyl Methacrylate, SCA’s MMA and PMMA (SUMIPEX®) plants allow vertical integration from raw material to product and customers.

Sumitomo Chemical has its origins in the Sumitomo Fertilizer Manufactory, which was founded to resolve the air pollution problem caused by Sumitomo’s copper smelting operation at the Besshi Copper Mine (now Niihama, Ehime Prefecture, Japan). Air was cleaned by removing the sulfur from the copper ore and the company used sulfur to manufacture fertilizer. Founded to overcome environmental problem and improve agricultural production at the same time, Sumitomo Chemical has inherited the Sumitomo Spirit, proving itself worthy of society’s trust and the credo, “Our business must benefit society at large, not just our own interests”. Both principles have been passed down to us over generations since our inception.
