The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Student Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the premier student organization on campus geared towards exploring Aerospace Engineering and its related fields. All university-affiliated individuals, student and faculty, undergrad and graduate, are welcome to participate in AIAA. AIAA is the world’s largest professional society devoted to the progress of engineering and science in aviation, space, and defense. The purpose of the society is “to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of aeronautics and astronautics, and to promote the professionalism of those engaged in these pursuits.” The AIAA Student Chapter at the University of Illinois accomplishes these goals through various activities. We sponsor talks about current research in aerospace, graduate school and undergraduate research opportunities, and we conduct field trips to companies and museums. We also provide hands-on projects and an atmosphere that encourages involvement in aerospace engineering and that also promotes interaction between students.

Founded in 1996 by Dr. Paul Magelli, Illinois Business Consulting (formerly known as OSBI Consulting) is the premier student consulting organization. It has conducted approximately 750 projects for over 500 clients worldwide. Part of the Gies College of Business, the primary mission of Illinois Business Consulting is education, enabling students to apply their class room learning to real business problems. Illinois Business Consulting conducts 40-50 business consulting projects each year for established organizations of varying sizes (Fortune 500 to small businesses, both for-profit and not-for-profit) and allows students to build problem solving, project management and client management skills that can be leveraged in their career of choice. Illinois Business Consulting recruits graduate and undergraduate students alike to execute the engagements, and leverages expertise from other programs across the campus, including the Graduate School of Library Information Sciences, College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Communications and the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations depending on the project scope. In addition, select faculty members provide subject matter expertise to the teams.
